In 2014, armed with a 7-piece brass band, Michelle walked into the studio to record her debut solo album, A Brass Act. In the tradition of the big band divas this album honors, the songs were all recorded completely live, often in one take. Conceived by producer Mitchell Walker, the album features an eclectic array of big band and Broadway numbers, from the iconic to the lesser known, with killer new arrangements and music direction by two-time Alan Menken Award and Clive Davis Award winner Dylan Glatthorn.

Michelle Dowdy has a big, lush, gorgeous voice and she uses it with versatility. The choice of music is eclectic; the theme is “Brass.” I’m assuming “Brass” means large song, large emotional demand, and the guts to go for the demands of the material—mission accomplished. Here, finally, is a young woman with a genuinely fresh perspective on classic songs and the heart and musicianship to deliver them fully realized to us." - Susan Hasho, Times Square Chronicles |
